Let's Go Caroling
On Go Caroling Day, recognized on December 20th of every year, we celebrate a great holiday tradition that was very popular in the past, and is still a great way for family, friend, and social groups to celebrate the holiday season.
Spreading Holiday Cheer
The tradition of Christmas carols hails back as far as the thirteenth century. However, there was a decline in popularity but survived in rural communities until the revival of interest in carols in the 19th century. The first appearance in print of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen", "The First Noel", "I Saw Three Ships" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" was in Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern (1833) by William B. Sandys.
Going Christmas caroling is all about singing door to door singing Christmas carols as a caroling group in celebration of the Christmas Season! You will hear popular songs such as "Jingle Bells", "Silent Night", "Frosty the Snowman", and "Ruldoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
- Definition of a Christmas Carol: A Christmas carol (also called a noël) is a carol (song or hymn) whose lyrics are on the theme of Christmas, or the winter season in general and which are traditionally sung in the period before Christmas.
- Meaning of the House-visiting Wassailing: very much similar to caroling, is the practice of people going door-to-door singing Christmas carols.
In honor of Go Caroling Day, why not gather up the family, friends or neighbors and spread some holiday cheer this year? Go caroling in your neighborhood, visit a local nursing home or retirement center and sing a few songs to folks who are unable to celebrate with loved ones or even sing some songs to the fireman working at your local fire station.
