How to avoid the flu
Learn how to avoid getting sick with the flu this winter.
Why Do We Get Sick in Winter?
During the winter people get sick more often but not because of the cold. We get sick more often in the winter because we stay indoors with other people for longer time periods. By closing up our homes to keep out the cold, we keep in the warmth and those nasty microorganisms.
How can I get infected?
It spreads through small particles in the air. It spreads between humans through coughing or sneezing of infected people or touching something with the virus on it and then touching your own nose, eyes and mouth.
Symptoms:
- high fever
- intense headache
- severe coughing that makes your chest hurt
- chills
- sore throat
- body aches
- fatigue
- runny nose
- nausea
- vomiting
If you feel two or more symptoms, tell your parents or teachers.
What should I do to stay healthy?
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Place the tissue in a plastic bag and throw it in the trash.
If you don't have a tissue to cover your mouth, use the inside part of your elbow.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Stay home if you are sick, and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Avoid kissing and hand shaking.
Avoid attending crowded places.
Open the windows and ventilate your home.
Eats fruits and vegetables that have vitamine C.
Do always what your parents and teachers tell you to do!!
