Speed Skating

Speed skating is one of the six original events from the first winter Olympic games.  Two skaters race in each event and compete against the clock, not each other.  They race counter-clockwise around an oval track in a hunched position to reduce air drag and they change lanes at the crossover point in each lap.  Racers can reach up to 60 m.p.h.
