Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing was added to the program in 1936. The Olympic alpine skiing program includes five events: downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom and super combined. Skiers race downhill with massive speed, up to 75 m.p.h.. In the slalom events, racers must navigate past each gates on the course. A missed gate means disqualification. Medals are awarded to the three fastest racers in each event.
