What's In A Name?
No one quite knows the exact origin of the word, Easter. Some think the name comes from Ēostre, an Anglo-Saxon pagan goddess of spring. Her symbol was the rabbit, which along with eggs, are emblematic of fertility and rebirth. Many believe that the word Easter is derived from her name and that the modern symbols of Easter, the Easter Bunny and the Easter Egg, are also inherited from her.
