Then the Gingerbread Man ran and ran and came to a river, so he stopped running. He looked around and could see no way to cross. Suddenly, a fox came up from behind the Gingerbread Man, but the Gingerbread Man smelled him and began to run.

"Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me. I'm the Gingerbread Man."

"Don't worry," said the fox. "I have no plans to try and catch you."

The Gingerbread Man stopped and turned around. "You don't want to eat me?" he asked.

"Nope," said the fox.

"Could you get me across the river?" the Gingerbread Man asked.

"Of course," said the fox. "Hop on my back and I'll take you across."

Having no other way across, the Gingerbread hopped on the fox's back. About half way across the river, the fox suggested to the Gingerbread Man that he hop on his nose so that he'd remain above the water, but the Gingerbread Man had a cousin who had ridden on a fox and been tricked into sitting on the fox's nose and then been eaten. This Gingerbread Man was having none of it. The fox got him to the other side of the river, the Gingerbread Man ran off, and that was that.

Unfortunately, what the Gingerbread Man did not realize was that while the fox was talking to him about sitting on his nose, he was reaching up with one of his paws to attach a GPS locator to the Gingerbread Man. When the Gingerbread Man went to sleep that night, the fox walked up as quiet as could be and that was the end of the Gingerbread Man.
