U.S. drawing contest for kids. Get ready to participate!
Do you love to Draw? Do you love to play Sports?
If yes this drawing contest is for you! The International Child Art Foundation (ICAF) is bringing together for the 5th time the Artist and the Athlete. Children aged 8-12 are encouraged to participate in the 5th Arts Olympiad lesson plans that conclude in the painting and digital art competition on the theme, My Favorite Sport. A thoughtful interpretation of your favorite sport can inspire non-athletically inclined children who might face the "obesity risk" to engage in their favorite physical activity more frequently. Similarily, a thoughtful interpretation of their favorite sport can inspire athletically inclined children who might face the "creativity risk" to start expressing themselves through the creative arts. Through structured lesson plans, you are encouraged to break old stereotypes and embrace the "Artist-Athlete ideal" of the creative mind and healthy body. The lesson plan also aims to develop empathy between these two student groups in order to avert violence in schools and deepen students' global awareness and understanding. The program is free of charge for schools. The winners from participating school districts in the U.S. and nearly 100 countries will come together at the 5th World Children's Festival in Washington, DC in June 2015.
Try your luck and draw your favorite Sport activity from step by step instructions or from your imagination, express your creativity and get your school and class involved! for more information ICAF or send your artwork to: International Child Art Foundation, PO Box 58133, Washington, DC 20037 USA

The Benefits of Art & Children
Children can learn to think creatively from a young age through art. Art can help push a childs' boundries and help them to continue to think outside the box as they grow into adults. Furthermore, children feel a sense of accomplishment from creating or drawing something on their own. Their are many benefits for children who create art:
- Expressing themselves through art may be their only way they can express how they are feeling and who they are when they cannot find the words.
- Feelings of self-worth and accomplishment by allowing children to use their individual talents.
- Art can be therapeutic, helping children express themselves who have emotional issues.
- Art can teach them about any subject.
- Art can encourage children to do better in school, boosting their verbal and numerical skills.
- Other important benifits to children include: building cognitive skills, problem solving capabilities, fine motor skills, language competence and the ability to focus and listen.
Exposing children to the world of art help them to develop all these skills and help them to succeed in school and life.
