The worlds most popular doll turns another year older. Wow, Barbie looks fantastic at 56 years old! Barbie Day is held on March 9th each year to celebrate her debut in New York at the American International Toy Fair back in 1959. It is estimated that over a billion Barbie dolls have been sold worldwide in over 150 countries. Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, wife of Elliot Handler, co-founder of Mattel, Inc. Together they have developed some of the biggest selling toys in American history including Barbie dolls, Chatty Cathy, Creepy Crawlers and Hot Wheel.
