Rainstick

Here is a fun craft tutorial to make your own rainstick. This is a real instrument that reproduces the sound of the rain!

Necessary materials

• A paper towel roll
• 20 to 30 toothpick
• Cotton
• A very thin sheet of paper (tissue paper)
• A printer sheet of paper
• A compass
• Adhesive tape
• Scissors

Steps to make a rainstick

1. Use the needle point of the compass to make holes around the roll from top to bottom. Make around 15 holes.
2. Into every hole, stick a toothpick.
3. Ask an adult to cut the pieces of toothpicks left out of the roll.
4. Stick some adhesive tape around the roll to make sure the toothpicks won't move.
5. In one end of the roll, put some cotton.
6. Cover this end with the tissue paper.
7. Wind the edges of the paper with tape so that it is tight to the roll.
8. Ask the adult to cut the toothpicks left into pieces, get the pieces left from step 3. Pour them all into the roll. You can also use grains of rice.
9. Close the other end of the roll the same way, with cotton, thin paper, and tape.
10. To be able to decorate the rainstick, you will need to wind it up with a sheet of paper. Stick one end to the roll with tape after winding it.
11. Ask an adult to cut the part of the paper that you don't need.
12. Stick the other end of the paper with tape.

Now you just need to decorate your rainstick, and turn it over to hear the rain fall!
